Petite Star Zia+ Pushchair

Lifestyles of parents differ from one another same as the need of pushchair for their baby. The needs of a small baby are very different to those of a toddler, however, many pushchair models are designed to adapt as the child grows. Choosing the right pushchair for the baby is very important and is also one the most expensive to meet all the needs. Petite Star Nursery Limited has been designing strollers over the past years to suit all the babies as well as to satisfy the parents. The new product joining Zia collection is the Zia plus which is the improved version of all its pushchairs.

Quick look:

Petite Star Zia+ Pushchair is a small and lightweight pushchair that suits best the baby and also for those who travel a lot. This is designed not only for the toddlers but also for the new born babies.

Design of Zia plus Pushchair:

The Zia plus (product code: 400dt-10) is preferred the most among modern parents and new mums as it is lightweight and all the required features are packed up well in its beautiful design weighing just about 6.3 kg. This pushchair has a dimension of 107 x 60 x 72 cm while the frame can be folded both horizontally and vertically into a neat stroller measuring about 75 x 36 x 34 cm. The Zia+ is very compact as it fits easily into the smallest car boots with its simple fold mechanism and has three wheels. The reclining back seat has the ability to lie flat and hence ideal to be used from the birth of the baby.

Features and colours available:

The Petite star Zia + Stroller is designed to be sturdy with a lightweight aluminium chassis. It can be used on any weathers and made of aluminium it is highly corrosion resistant.  Folding and unfolding cannot be made much easier as it is done by holding the handle and expanding the frame which clicks itself into the place. The three swivel wheels are perfect to control and gives full manoeuvrability in the small shops and in crowded places. The pushchair includes a storage basket underneath for baby essentials. The Petite Star Zia + comes in four colours; Jet Black, Purple Berry, Sky Blue and most recently, Pink Fizz. All these are eye – catchy colours and the baby is sure to adore it.

About the handles:

The Petite buggy is a delight to handle due to the soft grip handles. The best part is that the handles are adjustable. The handle height can be positioned to about 106cm. The handles are of grab style and are set at a comfortable angle for a good control. Thus these adjustable handle seems quite perfect for this little pushchair.

Reclining padded seat:

The important look out for a stroller is its comfort when the baby is laid on. The seat can be reclined flat for the baby to lie flat and have a comfortable, good nap – time. The seat is large enough giving room for the little one to breathe peacefully. The fabric that makes the seat is soft and durable. The seat pad can also be sponge cleaned if required.

Comfort with safety:

Comfort is always stressed due to its multi-recline positions and the padded seat. When the baby sits, a good support on the legs are provided with the fixed calf support. Thus no discomfort is felt by any toddler even when taken out for a long time. The seat is deep enough for the baby to sit and the 5 – point safety harness is included so that the baby does not slide down at any cost. Though the harness may be big for a new born, a smaller harness can be fixed.

Easy to use:

The small, solid wheels are suitable for an urban setting. The front wheel is lockable and is all removable. The foot operated brakes is easy for the users to operate. The brake is applied by stepping on the bright red lever located on the back left axle giving the immediate stop and released in the same way by the grey button in front. Thus the push and the stop are made handy for the parents.

Age limit and included accessories:

This Petite Star Zia+ Pushchair is ideal to use from the birth of the baby to the age of around 4 years. The accessories included with this buggy are the rain cover, foot muff, adjustable hood and a generous shopping basket.  The Petite Star Zia+ rain cover fits like a glove and the hood keeps the baby safe from harmful rays or glares. The foot muff is cosy on poor weather, reversible liners and a carry bag is also provided in the package.

In brief:

The Petite Star Zia+ buggy stands out when placed against other conventional umbrella strollers. Easy fold, lightweight, compact, sturdy is all that one could expect from it unlike the old bulky strollers. On the whole it is a perfect little stroller for the precious new arrival.

Cosatto Yo Pushchair Review

Cosatto has cornered the market online in quirky, funky and bright pushchairs. The unique brand of cheeky characters and eye-grabbing colour clashes brings instant recognition. And though we are not the biggest fans of Cosatto, we do love their brilliant and happy twist on everyday essentials. The following review will take you through the Cosatto Yo stroller, an old favourite that has been given a new lease of life with five colourways. Over to our test victim, the Yo Pushchair from the house of Cosatto, but first a look at the pros and cons of the pushchair.

Positives:

  • Warm & weatherproof cosytoes
  • Raincover is available in a bag which attaches to chassis
  • Comfy, padded handles

Negatives:

  • Small shopping basket
  • Wobbly front wheels
  • Upright chassis could get in the way of stride

Design features:

The Cosatto Yo Pushchair boasts a stylish look than some of the other lightweight Cosatto pushchair models and unlike some of its previous releases we have tested, it does not come with the phrases on the cosy toes, though you will have no trouble transporting your child. The exciting range of vibrant and subtle colour schemes including Fruit Salad (Orange/Candy pink), Mint Humbug (Cool mint/Charcoal), Blackjack, Liquorice grey, Raspberry and Wave is certainly a cynosure of attraction. The stroller is constructed from light aluminium and this makes it pretty decent to use and manage on a daily basis, particularly if you are a busy parent. At a size of 72cm (L) x 44cm (W) x 98cm (H), the folding design of the pushchair helps you stow with ease in garages, homes and car boots. Though it is lightweight, the Yo Stroller is generously sized for use with newborn babies and the seat of the pushchair is covered in hard-wearing, wipe-clean 300 denier polyester. An automatic folding lock (auto lock) keeps the stroller firmly closed once it is folded and there is a useful carry handle which allows you to easily transport it. The simple release mechanism of the folding lock can easily activate the opening of the stroller. Thanks to the central foot pedal as you can fold or unfold the pushchair one-handed.

Handles: Though we found the foam handle comfortable to the touch, it is certainly not the best. We also found that the stroller handle (of height 100cm) tends to deteriorate over use because of general wear and tear. The best part however is that the handles are angled at an optimum degree for maximum manoeuvrability and like most buggies or strollers, you will be able to adjust the height of the handle. The canopy hood (of UPF 50+) comes with the Cosatto Dude on the back and sides, featuring cotton lining all over the Dude print. On the top of the canopy, there is a Velcro, an opening peephole which helps you look in on your passenger.

The canopy’s concertina is pretty smooth and does what it says on the tin. When it is rigid, it chooses to stay rigid to offer the best form of shade and when closed, it stays flat and does not come in the way. Both operations work quite well and it does not need any brackets or clips. You can also remove the hood if required.

Seat: The seat is durable and built of a tough, wipeable 300 denier polyester fabric and there is a secure five point harness having an adjustable waist and crotch straps which do not offer the most optimum solution for reclining your sleeping child. Nonetheless, it does its intended job reasonably well owing to the use of silky, seat-belt like straps and the rise or drop can be done with little hassle using the straps. Like most contemporary strollers, the seat frame of the Cosatto Yo is an oval shape. To preserve the aesthetical look of the stroller, the designers have extended the seat fabric right to the bottom, i.e., the foot rest. This may apparently look good (and it does in fact), but it does not make much of a sense in terms of practicality when your two year old toddler hops in and out of it with his/her dirty shoes. The shoulder strap features padded chest pads for optimal effort and you can also reposition the Cosatto Yo to three heights to suit your kid’s growing age and size.

Wheel system: The Cosatto Yo Stroller is built with 4 plastic moulded wheels of size 16cm. The front wheels are designed with the ability to be locked off from their 360° swivel and this means you can even use on uneven terrain. You are also offered with the option of two brake pedals that you can find over the back wheels. The brake is operated by a firm push on either pedal and a gentle pull up using your toes would release it. We understand it is simple enough to do the action barefoot, though we recommend you wear a safe pair of shoes.

Fold: If you are used to the umbrella fold mechanism of pushchairs, you will have no trouble whatsoever with the folding mechanism of the Cosatto Yo. The fold mechanism of the pushchair is as follows: Just press on the red pedal located on the right of the pushchair, simultaneously pulling up the lever which is found on the top of the shopping basket. Then, you need to gently push forward on the handles; the chair contracts vertically and horizontally collapsing forward and the clips shut automatically. And there you have a compact, lightweight, manoeuvrable stroller that you can carry making use of the sturdy rubber handle. At 116cm (L) x 30cm (W) x 34cm (H), you can get the pushchair even in a small car with a lot of room to spare. Unfolding the stroller is as easy as folding it and all you need to do is to release the clip and pull up on the handles.

Accessories:

Shopping basket: Just beneath the seat of the stroller, there is a roomy large basket. And stroller by their very nature is pressed for space owing to their need to reduce to the smallest shape possible. However, the Cosatto is built with sufficient room for a relatively sizeable bag of groceries. Though the pushchair is tagged as a ‘from birth stroller’, it does not lie entirely flat and you need to consider this factor if you are purchasing it with a newborn in mind or for use during nap times.

Head hugger: There is a removable fleece head hugger built on to give you some extra support for newborns. The back is designed with the cotton print that is repeated from the canopy lining and you will also find that the padded rim is the same fleece that is featured in the footmuff to keep your child cosy and snug in cold weather. The stroller is complete with an incredibly distinct kangaroo pouch located on the front and this means your child will be able to slip hands into it so as to keep them warm. In addition to this, the footmuff’s front zips off completely. You can reverse the seat liner to show up a cooler and lighter lining for your child to sit comfortably on in warm conditions. In the summer, you can zip off the top half of the footmuff and the base can be reversed to produce a soft dry liner for really hot days. If you go for a Mint Humbug, you will find that the reverse is the same green/white cotton print featured on the inside of the canopy.

Raincover: The pushchair comes with a raincover that secures around the canopy and seat through the straps and Velcro Tabs and has a handy carry bag with a hook which you can find on the sides of the stroller’s chassis. This is a good feature in that the raincover is easy and quick to access and does not consume your valuable room in the basket. Cosatto also offers a little solution for putting away the rain cover. There is a built in drawstring back which hangs off a custom built hook you can find on the left of the handle. The raincover itself is edged with an enticing shade to co-ordinate with the pushchair. Obviously, you can leave the cover at home and make use of the bag for a drinks bottle when you are certain of a rain not imminent.

Assembly:

The Cosatto stroller does require some form of assembly before use. However, you do not need any tools for putting the various parts together. The instructions are detailed and clear with some helpful diagrams. The two front wheels and two rear wheels are required to be slotted into their wheel housing provided on the frame until they are completely clicked into place. It is also easy to detach the wheels making use of the corresponding release buttons located on the wheel housing. The Cosatto slides onto the brackets built on each side of the stroller’s chassis and can be fastened to the seat unit through Velcro tabs. You need not have to attach the shopping basket as it already comes attached. When you are using the footmuff, you need to unfasten the harness and the crotch straps and the shoulder threaded through.

Manufacturer Warranty:

The Cosatto Yo is covered under a 4 year manufacturer’s warranty. In order to qualify for the warranty, you need to register the product within 28 days of purchase. The warranty is valid only in the UK and Ireland.

Verdict:

Weighing 7kg, the Cosatto Yo is highly responsive to maneuvering and steering, courtesy the compact and light chassis, soft suspension and puncture-proof tyres and 2 front swivel wheels. Having said these, the Cosatto is not the cheapest stroller on the market online, but you need to remember that you are also provided a number of accessories including head hugger, raincover and footmuff, all of which are comfortable, durable and comfortable. Not to mention the splash of colours that it comes with. There are a few minor flaws (like we mentioned earlier in the review) that would deter you from considering the Yo as a serious contender. So if all you want is a practical, stylish bundle with compact convenience right from birth, the Cosatto Yo does not go all the way, though it comes pretty close.

Chicco Echo Stroller Review

The Echo Stroller from the brand ‘Chicco’ can turn out to be the most critical items of baby tools you will at any time invest in. You need to guarantee that your baby’s minimal passenger will perhaps be driving a little something that is reliable, comfortable, safe and sound. The Echo is a stroller brilliantly built to meet the needs of dynamic mums looking for a contemporary, stylish stroller. The likes of the CT0.6 Stroller from Chicco is a hit with both kids and mums alike. The following review will take you through the features and benefits of the Echo Stroller.

Features:

The Chicco Echo Stroller is more about smart colours, practicality and user-friendliness. Rugged for everyday use, the Echo stroller should come in pretty handy when you are out and about with your baby. This stroller is perfect for use from birth to 15kg or 0 to 36 months. Every little bit of attention has been paid to almost all features from the look of the wheels customized with the manufacturer’s logo to the embroidered seat. The seat unit is both comfy as well as spacious for your child. Coming to the material of the frame, it is made of lightweight, anodized aluminium swept frame having elliptical tubing, so there are no real issues of manoeuvrability with the stroller.

Chicco Echo Stroller Jade

Fold Dimensions:

Weighing 7.7kg, the dimension of the stroller in the open state is 47 (W)cm x 82 (D)cm x 108 (H)cm and measures 31 (W)cm x 29 (D)cm x 105 (H)cm.  The Echo Stroller comes in a wide range of styles including Jade (product code: 04.079310.160.000), Garnet (product code: 04.079310.110.930) and Moonstone (product code: 04.079310.050.930).

Seat Design:

The seat unit of the Chicco Echo Pushchair is generously sized and is suitably padded for your child. With a number of seating positions, the Echo Stroller is a forward-facing one that gives your child a view to the world around him/her. The backrest which is firm and padded can fully recline in the forward-facing mode offering lie flat position for newborns. With as much as four different positions, your child will be able to find the perfect position in the Echo stroller every time. The two position leg rest is adjustable to make sure your child is fully comfortable, particularly when you have the stroller in the layback position. You can fold down the stroller using one hand and it is quite compact when folded. Thanks to the built in compact umbrella fold of the stroller. The single handed reclining front seat makes it relatively easy when on the move. Talking about the safety aspect of the stroller, it comes with 5 point safety harness that secures your baby safely and features shoulder strap pads for added comfort for all day use.

Wheel System:

The wheel system of the Chicco Echo Umbrella Stroller is nothing short of excellence and like its predecessors, the manufacturer has done everything right  to give the user a reliable wheel system.  The lockable rubber front swivel wheels that the stroller is built with helps in precise manoeuvrability giving you complete liberty to set off for a run over different types of terrain. The front wheel suspension system attached to the lockable front wheel provides a reasonably smooth ride. Engaging the stroller’s parking brake stops it from rolling away whilst stationary.

Handles:

The ergonomically built soft foam handles make the strollers a joy for the parents to push. The handle built at a height of 108cm is pretty adjustable for your comfort and features carry strap/handle making it pretty convenient to pick up the lightweight stroller and lift. The foot operated parking brake ensures that the Echo stays where you want it to.

Chicco Echo Stroller Moonstone

Accessories:

The stroller also comes with a summer/winter hood that is foldable to help you prevent the sun’s rays from the child’s eye. The Chicco Echo Forward Facing stroller comes complete with a rain-cover that gives you total weather protection. The shopping basket can hold up things to a sizable capacity without any problem.

Verdict:

This down-to-earth and spacious stroller ticks all boxes, when it comes to a lightweight, small, compact folding pushchair. Ideal for daily use, the Echo is feature laden with several number of features including swivel wheels, shopping basket, carry handle, easy to recline seat and a handy rain cover should you protect your baby from the rain and winter elements. However, the Echo is not carrycot and car seat compatible. The pushchair is built short of a foot-muff. But this is no deal breaker, given the reasonable price of the product.

Tippitoes Spark Stroller Review

The brand Tippitoes has almost made it a philosophy to roll out super strollers and its brand new Spark is no real exception. Taking a leaf out of the EZE Pushchair, the Spark stroller sticks to the trend of affordable quality which goes hand in hand with the price. An eye grabbing design makes manoeuvring the stroller even more satisfying. Like the Tippitoes Max Viz Stroller, another popular stroller in its line up, the Spark is laden with features that go a long way in enhancing the comfort level of your baby. When most strollers available on the market make manoeuvring a nightmare, the Spark is a cut above the rest with its build quality. The following review should help you know more about its design and performance before you go for one.

Umbrella stroller:

The Tippitoes Spark Stroller, design wise is an umbrella stroller and reclines enough to let your baby lie down as flat as possible. If the baby is not prepared to hold his/her neck steady, it does require more of head and neck support. By the time, your baby is about 6-9 months old, guess who will be his/her best friend? You got it right, the smart Spark Stroller!

Tippitoes Spark Stroller

Features:

With stroller manufacturers the world over putting a lot of emphasis on weight, the Tippitoes Spark Stroller weighs only 7kg which is more or less the same as that of the ST1 or the Max line of strollers. If weight is one thing, manoeuvrability is a different piece of cake altogether (more on that in the following sections). Coming to the aesthetic features of the stroller, it looks pretty stylish in two colour combination, namely black & white (product code: PE1) and brown & white (product code: PE2). In fact it looks far better in real life than in the image on the website. We liked the PE1 in particular which boasts a stunning black and white circle design and has attracted a lot of customer comments as well!

Frame: The lighter weight of the stroller may translate into improved steering more often than not, but that also depends on the overall build quality of the stroller frame, which in this case is good. The frame of the stroller is made of steel which makes it a durable travel system. The Spark stroller is suitable for use right from birth. It is built to hold weight of up to 20kg.

Folding is a breeze: Easy to fold and unfold, this stroller as it is an umbrella type can go into most car boots, in limited closet space or public transportation in the folded state. The open and folded dimensions of the stroller are 107cm (H) x 51cm (W) x 87cm (L) and 37cm (H) x 33cm (W) x 1.07cm (L) respectively. It takes a few goes to get used to folding and unfolding the stroller, but it will only get easier with each attempt.

Handle: Though the manufacturer does not specify the actual height of the handle in the stroller, we found the carry handle to be pretty higher than most of the strollers on the high street. This is good news if you are built tall, as you do not need to lean on the stroller and this allows you to find your own balance. The handles should also give you a good grip while pushing the stroller over long distances, thanks to the soft grip foam handles, which is also perfect for colder winter mornings. All you need to make sure is that you do not overload the handles with shopping, lest you do not tip it over.

Wheel system:

As some of its predecessors, the wheel system of the Spark Stroller is nothing short of reliability. The swivel wheels on the front are lockable which makes it much easier to steer and this means it can be locked into place for long distance. As conventional wisdom would have it, the front wheels of the stroller are built with a suspension system and the result – smooth and comfortable ride for your little one. Besides, it does the job of making rough terrains smooth to nicety. A set of parking brakes that are foot operated helps keep the stroller from moving when it is not in use (if you decide not to fold it up for storage).

Multi Reclining Backrest:

The Tippitoes Spark Umbrella stroller is built with 3 recline positions that all work independently in forward and backward facing modes. And here is a stroller that boasts 180-degree lie-flat seat, a boon for a newborn as even experts claim that this sort of construction would help in your baby’s spinal development as he/she is ought to lie completely flat. There is also an adjustable calf rest with 2 position calf support for snoozing on the move. Another impressive feature is the 5-point safety harness that helps secure the baby safely and is way better than 3-point safety harness or just waist strap, courtesy its design to secure the upper body perfectly. When the baby is not in the stroller, you can carry the Spark over a shoulder with the help of the built-in carry strap.

Fabric: The fabric can be cleaned up easily using warm water and mild detergent. Drying off using a clean, soft cloth and leaving it open in a warm environment for a while will ensure long life of the fabric.

Accessories included:

Shopping Basket: The generously sized mesh shopping  basket is a nice inclusion as this is all you need so as to place a bag of shopping within it. The basket is pretty sturdy and the fact that it is placed relatively high on the stroller’s frame leaves you no chances for it dragging on the ground while you push the stroller, even when you place heavy items in the shopping basket.

Adjustable hood: We love the hood/sun canopy directly fitted to the stroller’s seat which provides the child maximum protection against the elements. Construction wise, the hood is pretty long and can be adjusted to suit various positions. And there is the lightweight rain cover that could cover both the front and the back of the stroller and should be one of the best you have used.

Quality Standards:

The Spark Stroller has been tested to BS 7409:1996 quality standards with the D rings certified to BS 6684 standards.

Verdict:

Finalist of the ‘Practical Parenting & Pregnancy’ Awards 2010/2011, the pushchair is easy to get on/off the bus and prides itself for its great looks. The drawstring reclining mechanism has done justice to the overall comfort and safety of the pushchair. The stroller is lightweight, but not to the extent that you will be worried about it tipping over!

Maxi-Cosi Mura 4 Stroller Review

A travel system seems to be somewhat complicated, but in actual it is not. It is essentially a pushchair that is designed and built to be suitable for your child until you no longer require pushing and manoeuvring them around and then they could walk for themselves. In the following review, let us review a popular travel system from the makes of Maxi-Cosi. The Mura 4 is an attention grabbing sturdy pram with a slightly different seat design. Drawing inspiration from its car seat roots, the Maxi-Cosi Mura 4 seems to appear more like a car seat and features T Bar as a bumper, yet another design innovation in addition to the 4 air filled wheels, the Maxi-Cosi Mura 4 is suitable for all terrains with a lot of convenience and use, more like a upmarket contemporary Luxury 4WD of baby prams.  Before we deal with the design features of the pushchair, let us see what our experts have to say on the positives and negatives of the Maxi-Cosi Mura 4s.

What is hot?

  • Excellent manoeuvrability & steering
  • Great suspension
  • Comfortable seat
  • Compact & nice fold
  • All the tyres are air filled

What is not?

  • Quite heavy to lift
  • Small Seat
  • Handle bar can be pulled out further
  • Harder to access storage basket

Design features:

The Maxi-Cosi Mura 4 Stroller is pretty comfortable and your baby will sleep very well in it.  The chassis of the stroller is a square anodised aluminium frame. The pushchair has sturdy high sides that will give your baby comfort and make him feel safe.  The pushchair seems to be of the same size as that of a ‘Moses basket’, though not much more robust. The sides made of plastic are not that flexible enough which we think makes it look better in terms of quality and safer too. This said, it is comfortable as it is nicely lined and padded. The Mura 4 is large and it certainly is not just a chair; rather it is meticulously moulded so that it can support your baby to have a nice view of everything that is going on. We do not think the pushchair is that practical because it is a bit huge.  You can use it if we go out locally but if you go out in the car, you need to simply stick to the car seat being attached into the wheels as the car will be just full. The body of the pram, wheels and the pram body leave very little space for everything else.

Maxi-Cosi Mura 4 Stroller

Seat design:

The seat on the Mura 4 pushchair seems to be more like a car seat and is built with a shaped bottom and you can find that the top of the seat just curves around the head. Disappointingly, though the pram is spacious and wide across the shoulders and at the bottom, the seat is not very tall. Coming to the dimensions, it is 17.7” or 45 cm high, 8.7” or 22 cm wide at the shoulders, 11.8” or 30cm wide at base and 11.6” or 29.5 cm deep. The side wings run 5.9” or 15 cm deep on either side. The shoulder harness is positioned at 13.8” or 35 cm and 11.8” or 30 cm. The seat’s base curves up to 3.9” or 10 cm.

The pram seat is easily reversible and built with 3 positions in both rearward as well as forward modes. There is also a flat layback, middle and upright positions.
You can make use of the layback position on the Mura for a newborn, though the Mura comes with two forms of pram bodies that are sold by the manufacturer as accessories. We found the soft pram body built to be positioned on the top of the reclined seat and you can attach it with the help of adaptors that you can get from Mura. These adaptors could also take the Cabrio to complete the baby travel system. You can find that the pram seat itself is a blend of the spongy, soft fabric of the 2007 Buzz seats and the regular Quinny fabric (available on the Speedi, Zapp and pre 2007 Buzz) found on the back.

This seat combination spells absolute comfort and makes for a pretty soft seat for both older kids as well as newborns.  The Mura comes with a T Bar rather than a regular bumper for your child for hanging onto. However, you can use the pram with or without having the T Bar. You will find the T Bar simple to release when you had to put your child in or out of the stroller. The T Bar has a button located at the bottom in the front base which is designed for pressing and lifting it up. Then it lays down right towards the footrest because as you can see, it is still attached through elastic.

We found the footrest short and can be adjusted to three different positions – halfway down, straight out and fully down. There is a footplate for a larger child and this helps him or her rest the feet right on the front of the frame of the Mura. There is a wire bar at the back for reclining the seat and this can be lifted up to effortlessly incline/recline the pram seat, even when  you have your kid in the seat. At the base of the pram seat, there is another rectangular wire bar for removing the seat unit. This is quite a simple process, but you cannot do this with your child in the seat. The easiest position to do this, as we found is when the pram seat is right in the upright position because it provides greater access to the wire bar.

Child safety harness:

The child safety harness is same as the Speedi, Quinny Zapp and Buzz. The harness has the same fabric as that of the models mentioned above and so is the mechanism to secure. You can fix the Mura harness in two steps. First, you need to slot the two clips from the shoulder strap together to form a single unit, then you have to feed this into the latch right from the crotch strap and this is pretty easy to do so, but a struggling child can make the additional fiddle quite annoying. You may find two sets of slots for above the shoulder safety harness to come through so as to adjust to the size of your child.

Canopy or Hood:

On first sight, the hood or the canopy of the Maxi-Cosi Mura 4 Forward Facing Pushchair seems to be pretty small and it should be said that with only continuous use, you will be able to appreciate the brilliant design of the hood. The hood is completely independent of the seat and therefore it is a bit of pain when you need to detach and re-attach the hood when you are turning around the seat. However the range of movement of the canopy makes up for this. You may also move the hood where it is needed to help you block the sun ray’s from the child’s eyes.  Similar to the Quinny Buzz (2007/08 version), the hood comes with a little extra bit of fabric (3.9” or 10cm) that is fixed to the hood’s underside which could be brought down to protect your child’s eyes from the sun.

The hood consists of side panels, your child can view through as well as window meant for viewing at the back. Disappointingly, the viewing window does not feature a cover, therefore when you are walking towards the sun, your child could get the sun on his/her head while the sun lets its rays through the viewing window. The hood’s upper part is 9.1” or 23cm (between the two pieces of frame) and the hood’s lower part (where you find the window) is 23cm (excluding the ‘extra’ fabric).
The brilliance of the hood lies in the ‘additional’ fabric that tucks into the back of the hood. The additional fabric could be brought out, therefore a full canopy is offered for the pram seat when it is in complete recline position (besides, it could be made use as a hood for the soft pram body that does not feature its own hood). You can attach the extra fabric to the standard hood for 10cm, the rest you can attach via zips and secure to the seat’s base using press studs. With the seat of the pram in half recline position, you can then extend around to cover out the afternoon sun whilst you are walking from the sun. This means as you find the sun low in the sky, you can adjust the canopy to keep the sun rays out of your child’s eye in this very position. As the pushchair’s hood is clipped onto the frame of the pram instead of the seat, it could be moved up to an upper position to fit in a taller child.

Handle design:

The handle on the Mura is pretty similar to that of the one you find on the Buzz. It is extended easily by simply pushing the large button found in the middle of the handle and pulling up. There are 4 different positions and as the handle pulls out up as well as away, a nice distance is formed away from those having a longer stride. The handle of Mura is slightly different from that of the Buzz in that the handle’s top section is rather rounded than flat oval. This makes for a comfy rounded grip, besides saving the Mura from the likely issues associated with the Buzz, where in the middle you have the extension handle, when you are trying to steer one handed. The Mura is excellent for steering one-handed. You can extend the handle from 39.6” (100.5cm) to 41.9” (106.5cm).

Storage:

The storage basket on the Mura 4 stroller is reasonably sized. The real problem lies in accessing the basket and that depends on the position of the seat (middle, upright or layback) and the actual position of the footrest.

Wheels & Brakes:

This Maxi-Cosi Mura 4 stroller has 4 air filled tyres. The tyres on the rear have a diameter of 32cm with superb suspension and it is enhanced by big springs in the frame of the stroller to handle jaggy or bumpy terrain with a lot of convenience. This stroller has two front wheels situated on either side of the frame’s front. In the middle of the stroller, there is a double front wheel. On the Maxi-Cosi Mura 4 Stroller, the air filled tyres on the front feature a diameter of 9.8” or 25cm. These wheels can handle uneven terrains with a great sense of ease. The stroller’s front wheels are independent swivel wheels, though you can fix these into a locked position by simply pushing the button on the front of the stroller’s wheels up.

It is simple to remove both the front as well as the rear wheels. You can remove the rear wheels when you depress the middle button on the wheels. The stroller’s front wheels is easy to remove and all you need to do is to press the small button that you can find on the back of its wheel.
The wheel brakes of the Mura are convenient to apply.  The Mura’s rear wheel comes with a large red leaver located on the right side, which you can conveniently flip down with your own foot. This could engage the brake by putting a rod from the axel in the form of circular depressions found on the inside of the stroller’s wheel and this obviously makes the brakes a lot secure. You need to flip the leaver back up to disengage the brake.

Fold mechanism:

To fold the stroller, you need to lift up the buttons located on either side of the frame of the handlebar (do note one of these comes with a securing block that you have to slide to the side) and you have to push forward on the pram’s handle frame. The handle bar can move straight down and forward, therefore it comes down in between the tyres on the rear. In the centre of the frame and where exactly the seat goes, there is a grey button which you need to press it and pull towards you  (if you are standing in the rear of the frame) that will further compress the  stroller’s frame with the front wheels moving about to rest in between the wheels on the rear. The area on the folded frame is pretty similar in comparison to the Buzz.  If you have to unfold, first lift handles so that the stroller is resting on all four wheels (i.e., first handle position), next the red catch (found on the frame’s right hand side) is lifted to help you lift the stroller handle completely up and the frame could click into place. The instructions for the stroller show it as you can fold it with the pram seat on in a forward upright position. We tried this, but were not able to do so. We then folded the pushchair to a completely folded position without the seat. The manufacturer states the same in their instructions.

Manoeuvrability:

The Maxi-Cosi Mura 4 is a superb pram to manoeuvre and you can steer it pretty easily single-handed with both a large or small child seated in it. The wider wheelbase tends to make it slightly bulky at the shops, but anyway the smooth ride of the pushchair makes up for this shortcoming.  You can best describe the Mura the 4WD of strollers. Pushing it is a breeze even on uneven terrain. The rear as well as the front wheels is capable of tackling terrain without too much of an effort. The ride is really smooth, courtesy its large suspension springs duly designed in the rear of the chassis.

Size:

Weighing 17kg / 37.4lbs, the air-filled tyres of the stroller mean that you will not feel the weight when you are pushing it. When it is folded, the compact fold nonetheless tend to make up for it and thus makes it easier to lift. When it comes to unfolded dimensions, the width of the rear axel including the wheel is 26” (66cm), the length of the front wheels to the handlebar at the possible lowest setting is 38.2” (97cm) and the length of the wheels on the front to back wheels is 31.5” (80cm). Talking about the folded dimensions (without seat), the length in between the handle bar and rear wheels is 29.9” (76 cm) with the height of the rear wheel being 12.6” (32cm) and the width is 26” (66 cm). The folded dimension of the push chair (placing the seat face down on top of the stroller’s frame) is discussed below: width:  26” (66cm), height: 18” (46cm) and length between the handle bar and the rear wheels is 29.9” (76cm). When it comes to the weight, the total weight is about 37.4 lbs. (17 kg) with the weight of the frame and seat being 26.4 lbs. (12 kg) and 11 lbs. (5 kg).

Maxi-Cosi Mura 4 Package

Accessories:

The Maxi-Cosi Mura 4 Four Wheel Pushchair comes along with a hood, basket, adaptors, wheel pump and adaptors for Prambody/ Cabrio. Extra accessories that are available separately include pram body, soft pram body, footmuff, rain cover, multipurpose/diaper bag and sun umbrella. We have tested the rain cover, footmuff, sun umbrella and multipurpose/diaper. To be honest, we have tried out the Prambody or Soft Prambody because the Maxi Cosi adaptors are more or less the one which is being used for the Quinny Dreami which can fit on the Mura (this of course is not manufacturer specified).

Footmuff:

The Mura’s footmuff is pretty brilliant. Because the footmuff should be able to go both sides of the T Bar, the footmuff consists of ‘legs’ that could be left separate or features press studs for attaching together. You can also find zips right at the bottom of the legs that can let a taller child to still make use of the footmuff and place their shoes outside the muff. The footmuff is attached to the stroller directly making use of the press-studs (that is where the harness is), therefore this helps stop the frustrating trait of the footmuffs slipping down in the pram’s seat. The upper body to the footmuff helps wraps around your child and if you prefer your child to keep his/her arms out, you could either use the zippers available on the side of the muff or undo the upper wrap part. The foot muff’s fabric is the same as that of the extension part of the hood and its interior is polar fleece.

Multi-purpose/Diaper Bag:

The diaper is pretty large and is included to fill up/fit in the shopping basket.  If you are a small person, the storage bag is too unwieldy for wearing comfortably. We found the bag suitable though for leaving in the storage basket. The bag is integrated with a padded change mat and there are several compartments and pockets for keeping everything pretty organized.

Sun Umbrella:

The sun umbrella for the stroller is the same as the one you find in the Buzz. You will find it pretty simple to attach or detach it and is fabulous for adjusting to keep the sun away from your child.

Rain cover:

We found the rain cover really large and should cover both the front as well as the back of the stroller.

Available colours:

The Maxi-Cosi Mura 4 Stroller is available in a wide range of colours namely the total black, brown earth, purple blossom, deep blue, denim field and intense red for you to make the most of.

Manufacturer warranty:

The Maxi-Cosi Mura 4 Stroller is manufactured according to the current European quality standards & safety requirements and covers a warranty period of one year against defects in material & workmanship. The warranty period commences from the date of purchase.

Verdict:

Winner of the Universal Design Award, the Maxi-Cosi Mura 4 is nicely built to tackle all forms of terrain. With comfort seat that has side wings and padding, the functionality is excellent – either forward or rearward facing with all three-seat recline positions, but as a matter of disappointment, the seat has a fairly small height and will not fit in a taller/older child. The Mura has greater manoeuvrability having parent comfort high built with the rounded handlebar and easy-to-push using one hand. However, the pushchair is very heavy and to completely fold it, you need to remove the seat and this means the weight is nicely broken down into much smaller parts so as to make it fit in the car. This tends to make handling the stroller a tad easier although we feel its heaviness. The frame on folding is pretty compact and when you compare it to the Quinny Buzz with folded frame, it has a similar area and this accounts for an easier lift.  You would not like taking the Mura with you on public transport and folding it out can be really frustrating, though it seems to travel well on trains.
