Quinny Zapp Stroller is a modern buggy that is a bit different from the rest. Today’s parents will find this buggy as one of the most compact and lightweight strollers available. Quinny is part of Maxi-Cosi, one of the most trusted brands when it comes to optimal protection for babies, toddlers and kids. The following review will take you through the new and improved Quinny Zapp Stroller and let us find out how it can best protect your child while he or she is on the go.
Design:
While the earlier review on Quinny Buzz 3 is about comfort and user-friendliness, the Quinny Zapp Stroller spells out light-weightiness and compactness. The stroller has been constructed with comfort and safety of your baby in mind. Weighing 7.8kg, this buggy features an anodized aluminum frame for easy lifting handle. Fold this away and this probably will be one of the smallest pushchairs available. It does easily fit into the boot of the car with plenty of room left for all the shopping. Not to mention that it can be easily transported and stored when you are travelling in a bike, car, train or aboard a plane. With sleek and attractive design, it is really light and can be pushed one-handed and even with one finger on a smooth surface.

Suitable for children from birth:
Quinny Zapp Pushchair is available in tempting colours including brown, moss, green, blue, pink, red and the highly popular black, the Quinny Zapp seat is ideal for children from birth to 15 kg (analogous to 3.5 years on average). It can be used as soon as your baby is able to sit up without any assistance.
Easy fold mechanism:
The full size buggy features the most compact 3-D fold and can fold down itself to a dimension of 69cm (L) x 27cm (W) x 30cm (H). There are two push buttons either side of the seat that have to be pressed to fold the buggy. There is also a third push button located under the seat. Though the whole stroller can collapse in one simple fluid motion, the fold does require both hands. Nevertheless, it is fair to say that the fold mechanism is quick and easy. An upper lock (that has to be extended into a horizontal position) and coupling (that has to be pulled outwards) make the process of unfolding the buggy a doddle.
Wheel System:
The Quinny Zapp Buggy Pushchair front wheel is highly manoeuvrable and could rotate 360 degree. It is really easy to steer in tight spaces and the swivel front wheels can be locked for steady running over rough surfaces, so they can work like fixed wheels when you need. The wheels are made of hard plastic and comparatively noisy over the pavement. They produce a clickety clack noise which takes a bit of getting used to. The front and rear wheel suspension ensures that even the smallest of children lies comfortably in this shock resistant buggy. The turning circle is small, so no more reversing out of a lift. This feature will help keep you in good control over the stroller.
Maxi-Cosi car seat:
It is recommended that a Maxi-Cosi CabrioFix or Maxi-Cosi Pebble car seat be fitted to this stroller for optimal protection against side impact. We found it pretty easy to install and the practical belt hooks help retain seat belt when you are seating your child. With an ergonomic handle, Head pillow, Carrycot, One-pull harness, Push button, handy storage compartment, removable Covers, Push button, Shoulder belts, Belt hook, Belt buckle, Crotchpad, Sun canopy, Carrying handle & Tether strap, the addition of a Maxi-Cosi car seat will ensure optimal comfort for your baby.
Soft touch grip handles:
The handles are comfortable with an ergonomic soft touch grip that makes steering easier. Even so, if you are tall, you will find the position of the handlebar to be comfortable. The downside is that because it is so light, you cannot hang anything heavy like bags, jackets, etc on the handlebars as this can make the pushchair less stable and would increase the risk of the stroller pushing over. Therefore, if your baby falls asleep make sure you wheel it around on its back wheels.
5 point harness safety systems:
As you may know that a five-point harness is preferable to a three-point because of its added safety. This is a nice option, in that it can prevent your baby slumping or leaning forward if he or she falls asleep. Make sure you secure your child with the crotch restraint harness together with the lap and shoulder belts, even while using the footmuff.
Adapters for use with Maxi-Cosi seats:
A feature that impressed us the most is its construction. This Quinny Zapp Baby stroller has been designed with compatibility in mind. It is quite simple to clip in a car seat such as Maxi-Cosi into the pushchair with the adaptor attachments. Therefore, you do not have to wake your sleeping baby up to move from the car seat to the stroller. The shoulder straps are well padded which means that your baby can sleep comfortably in it.
Parking Brake:
The brakes on the Zapp are quite easy to use and effective at keeping the buggy still. To apply the brakes, you have to simply push down on the red pedal that is over the right wheel. To release, simply push down the grey pedal on the left wheel. There is a parking brake which should be engaged when transferring your baby into or out of the pushchair. Make sure you always make use of the parking brake when parking the Quinny Zapp or even when the stroller is at halt for only a few moments. Note that the parking brake cannot be used to slow the pushchair down a hill.
Accessories:
Like most pushchairs available, there is a fairly large protective sun canopy that blocks direct sunlight and prevent those harsh rays from your baby’s eyes. The removable hood can give your baby full coverage and allow for increased air flow on hot days. The hood consists of a viewing window at the top and windows on each side for the baby to see through. A rain cover is included that could protect the baby during inclement weather. The Insect Net is also effective for keeping flies and insects away. This buggy does not have foot muffs which would have been ideal for keeping your baby’s feet warm and cosy on cold winter days and the foot muffs have to be purchased separately.
The shopping basket included gives you loads of room for storing those extra things. A transport bag comes as a useful accessory to protect the pushchair when it is packed away. A must have when you are on the move, especially if you are to send your buggy through oversized luggage. The seats in the buggy also come with a footrest for extra support for your child’s feet. There is a Bike Carrier useful for taking the Quinny Zapp along on your bike. Note that the diameter of the tubes may not exceed 14.5 mm.
Warranty:
The manufacturer offers a warranty of 1 year for the product from the date of your purchase.
Use & Care:
Always dry the Quinny Zap off using a soft absorbent cloth after use in rainy weather for extended life. Riding the Quinny Zap on the beach or through seawater may lead to rust or scale formation, therefore ensure you clean the frame thoroughly with water. The frame and the fabric should be always washed with a damp cloth and never use abrasive cleaners. Using silicon lubricants will draw dirt and grime. The wheels and axels have to be cleaned regularly. The sand and dirt have to be removed before mounting the wheels. Look out as the tyres may leave black mark on certain surfaces including smooth floors like parquet, linoleum and laminate.
Drawbacks:
The stroller features a wider wheelbase (width of the wheel base is 59cm) than most other buggies available on the market. The main downside for us is that the stroller is heavier by up to 2kg than other lightweight strollers you can find on the high street shops. There are chances of the stroller to tip backwards if you hang a small amount of weight over the handles. Finally, the seat does not recline, though this has not been a problem for us.
Conclusion:
The Quinny Zapp could be a little to collapse, but once you are accustomed to it, the pushchair is really light and small. It would take a bit of practise to open and close the pushchair and that is when the instruction manual comes in handy. Built with a high level of manoeuvrability, it is just the ticket if you are looking to balance the shopping bags in one hand and your baby in the other. So our verdict: it is a brilliant pushchair and a more than useful travel system.
